Do you want to feel more of the Comfort of God?
If you have never experienced the comfort of God: just imagine how deep, complete and reassuring, how peaceful that comfort is.
The God who created the intricacies of a butterfly, the mass of the oceans and the power of the stars…His comfort is complete.
It doesn’t depend on circumstances, isn’t affected by time, at times is hard to fathom and it’s powerful enough to lead, bring or carry us through every valley in life not matter how deep hard or long it is.
So who wants some? Some of us may actually be in NEED of some…so how do we tap into this incredible promise?
The Bible makes it clear, but it is the opposite of what you would think, and what we naturally do when needing comfort…
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.”
2 Corinthians 2:3-7 NLT

- If we want more comfort? Suffer for Christ!
We often try to focus on things that make us feel better (idols) to distract or ‘comfort’ us…
Substances, sex / porn, movies, games, sport, possessions, money, career, success, acceptance, relationships, charity – they can all be a substitute for God (and by extension, His comfort).
We want to feel better (or good / happy), so focus on ourselves and what we want.
This is the opposite of what Jesus calls us to: He wants us to put Him first, others second and ourselves LAST. !!
What do we do to serve Him?
Not just to live a better life or sim less, what do we intentionally set out to do for the Kingdom? And so much so that we suffer for Him?
It is THEN that we experience more of His comfort, NOT by focussing on self, resting or getting why we want.
How does God want you to serve Him and His Kingdom?
Which person are you meant to disciple? Which family member friend or neighbour are you meant to reach out to or share the Gospel with? Which ministry does He want you to join or serve?
No matter what suffering it brings, His comfort is greater. You can not our-serve God!
Lord, help us to be less selfish. Give us compassion and care for those who you want us to serve, love and share with. Help us to focus on what matters so we do experience your peace. ThankYou for Your love and the comfort You have shown us repeatedly.
NOTE:
Serving people, while a GREAT endeavour and commanded by Christ, should NOT be substituted for “Serving Christ”. Furthermore, serving Christ does NOT mean that things will go easily (in the physical).
