Disaster Day – collapsing concrete…

How many times in a day can you fail? Today, a new record!! We had planned to do a small section of concrete – only around 40m2 – which I thought we would have finished in an hour. We hoped to get it fished before the worst of the rain hit.  The truck arrived 10 minutes early, and amazingly, the driver managed to get right were we needed him with only knocking down one fence. Yet another near disaster: today this wire started to smoulder and caught fire during one of the hottest days of the summer, though we didn’t know it.  We could smell the burning plastic during the day and looked high and low for the source. I exhausted my search after four attempts and the temperature of the day started to drop. “Have we already been to bed dad?” This sentence was the first sign that something was wrong – very wrong. At first, I thought this child was joking, despite him knowing that health / injury is nothing to ever be joked about in this family… As I questioned him, it still seemed just like he was joking, until, after about 3 minutes he ‘jerked’ a little and his eyes went funny and the same sequence of questions came out.
